Ishikawa Diagram

   

Definition: an Ishikawa Diagram is a graphical technique that can be used in teams to identify and arrange all causes as well as the root cause of an event or problem or outcome.
It graphically illustrates the hierarchical relationship between the causes according to their level of importance or detail and a given outcome.
Often used in combination with the 5 Whys technique.
Also called: Fishbone Diagram after its typical shape.
Typically used within Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma projects.
